We decided to 'upgrade' our standard popovers with Gruyere cheese baked on top. We adapted our Popover recipe to the BLT Steak recipe (that calls for the addition of cheese). We were delighted by the outcome. This recipe is easy to make & delicious. Enjoy!
Ingredients:
- 4 cups of warm milk
- 8 eggs
- 4 cups flour
- 1- 1/2 Tbs salt
- 2 1/2 cups grated Gruyere cheese
Preheat oven to 350 degrees
Whisk eggs (we used a Kitchen Aid mixer on low during this entire process). Warm milk in a saucepan & slowly add to the egg mixture. Measure the flour & sift into the mixture. Add salt. The leftover batter may be refrigerated over night (please note that it will need to be reheated before baking).
Spray non-stick vegetable spray (like Pam) in the baking pan to prevent sticking. Pour batter into cups, filling until about 3/4 full. Add grated Gruyere cheese on top of mixture (about 2 1/2 Tbs each).
Bake in oven for about 15 minutes. Rotate pan a half a turn & continue to bake until golden brown (about 40 minutes).
